I'm really depressed! What Mecca is to Muslims,Jerusalem to Jews and Christians and Varánasi to Hindus,New Orleans is to jazz fans.I know there was later Chicago,Harlem,Kansas City,California,New York-but the Crescent City is where it first flourished. You only have to think of Basin Street,Beale Street,Canal Street or of Buddy Bolden,King Oliver,Jelly Roll Morton,Sidney Bechet,Louis Armstrong,Kid Ory,Johnny Dodds,Lil Harden, etc.ad infinitum.I really do hope the French Quarter can be restored! Apart from all that, there is the catastrophic destruction, massive loss of life and terrible suffering.Only an ignorant moron can deny that industrial pollution causes global warming and devastating climate change-whether or not it was to blame here. The citizens of New Orleans and the other affected cities and towns need massive federal aid ,which the White house recently replaced by private insurance.Just to speak personally,I'm anxious about a very generous retired teacher there who has posted recipes for delicious Créole dishes to the livejournal cooking community. |

I've always wanted to go to New Orleans as a kind of jazz trip. The disaster is terrible my thoughts are with everyone effected. It's really hard to understand the depth of it living so far away and all.
Yeah.I hope the magnificent African-American musical heritage can be preserved. As a fellow Brit,I know how you feel.
and isn't it SUCH a great idea that one of the solutions to the recently climbing gas prices is to produce more gas that is unsafer for the environment?
Because Lousiana contained chief ports of much of the gas that comes into the US, gas prices were raised to really high prices, as much as $5.00+ in georgia. And so what does the Bush administration do? They asked the environmental agencies to remove some of the stricter codes that prohibits less clean gas. Not that ANY gas is clean, but I guess there are supposably some types of gas are better for the environment then others.
SO now we have more uncleaner gas in the environment in order to reduce the price of gas... Does this seem idiotic to anyone else?
A Key cause of Global Warming is car gasline... A key cause of the hurricane was probably global warming... The hurricane caused gas prices to rise... Riseing gas prices have allowed for less clean gas to be sold... Less clean gas means more global warming. More global warming means more hurricanes.
HMMM.
